The Stone Boat Was Used To Haul The Water. Note The Dovetailed Log Corner And Wall Construction Of The Log House. Mr. Ringland Reported That When The House Was Built, Some Of The Logs Were So Green That During The Following Winter The Branches Began To Sprout When Exposed To The Warmth Inside The House. Head And Shoulder Shot Of Fire Fighter Charles E. Dawson, Of South Hall Of The City Of Winnipeg Fire Department Died January 1896 From The After Effects Of An Accident Sustained At The Cauchon Block Fire. The Late Fireman Was In Good Health Up To The Time Of The Accident Which Resulted In Injuries To His Back And Complications. His Back Was More Seriously Injured Than First Anticipated And An Attack Of Pneumonia Set In That Was The Final Cause Of Death. The Deceased Joined The Fire Brigade In 1886 And Was One Of The Oldest Members On The Force. His Home Was At Rouse'S Point, Ny, Where His Remains Were Sent Via Cpr Express. The Funeral Took Place From South Hall To The Depot. The South Hall Was Draped Out Of Respect His Memory And The Flags Were At Half Mast On The Towers Of The Three Halls |

The Building Opened In 1895 By The Order Of The Faithful Companions Of Jesus As A Boarding School For Girls Known As St. Joseph'S Academy. Students Came From Fort William (Thunder Bay), Winnipeg, Regina, Prince Albert, Battleford, And Rat Portage (Later Called Kenora). Lady Aberdeen Was Entertained At St. Joseph'S Academy In Its Opening Year. The Academy Closed In 1902. Then In February 1903 The Building Re-Opened As St. Joseph'S Hospital, Operated By The Order Of The Sisters Of Providence Of Montreal. It Was Demolished In 1977 |
